What you need

  • picture cards to sort
  • 2 visible category groups, boards, or sorting spaces
5 min minimum

Setup

Then start the loop
Step 01
On a low table or clear floor space, put out 2 category groups facing your child so both sorting spots are easy to see at once.
Step 02
Place a small stack of picture cards beside the groups and keep the top card easy to grab.
Step 03
Keep the cards close enough that your child can take 1 card, look up, and place it without leaving the sorting area.

    Sort 1 picture card yourself and say, "This one goes here. Your turn."
  2. 02
    Let your child pick up the next card, look across the 2 groups, and place it where it belongs.
  3. 03
    Bring attention back to the next card and repeat until the small stack is gone.
  4. 04
    Point to the finished groups, name the finish, and reset only if your child wants another round.

  • Stay close if your child still mouths paper cards, laminated pieces, or small backing materials.
  • Stop and simplify if too many visible cards start to feel busy or frustrating.
