What you need

  • 1 laundry basket
  • a few clean clothing items
5 min minimum

Setup

Then start the loop
Step 01
Put 1 empty laundry basket on the floor beside you while you fold clothes.
Step 02
Place a few clean clothing items in a small pile right beside the basket.
Step 03
Keep the basket light enough that your child can help tip it without getting stuck under it.

How play unfolds.

  1. 01
    Drop 1 clean clothing item into the basket and say, "In the basket. Your turn."
  2. 02
    Let your child load 1 clothing item at a time until the basket has a small load.
  3. 03
    Tip the basket or help your child tip it so the clothes spill back onto the floor.
  4. 04
    Start the same load-and-empty turn again.

Safety Check

  • Stay close so your child does not climb into the basket.
  • Keep the basket light enough to tip safely.
  • Skip hangers, pins, or small clothing accessories in the play area.

Make it easier

Younger end
  • -Use only 2 or 3 clothing items per round.

  • -Let the child do only the drop while you help with the dump.

Make it harder

Older end
  • +Spread the clothing items a little farther apart around the basket.
  • +Wait before pointing so your child finds the next item alone.
  • +Ask your child to carry 1 clothing item from you to the basket before dropping it in.
