Safety Check

  • Stay within arm's reach the whole time.
  • Stop if the basket has cracks, sharp edges, broken handles, or a slippery base.

  • -Let your child crawl only partway in before backing out.
  • -Keep the basket in the same position for every round.

Make it harder

Older end
  • +Pause inside the basket before climbing out.
  • +Ask your child to turn around inside before coming back out.
  • +Start from one step farther away from the opening.

If it's not working

If you see
If child ignores it
Tap the basket, reach one hand inside, and wait at the opening.
If you see
If child misuses it
Turn the basket back to the open side and guide one slow round with "In and out."
If you see
If child gets frustrated
Tip the opening slightly lower, help with one hand, and stop after one successful turn.

Fit Inside

Getting the body into and out of a container with control

This helps a child judge where the body fits, move through a small space, and coordinate getting down and back up during everyday play and home routines.

  • Repeating the same in-and-out route helps your child practice judging where the body fits and how to move through a small space.
  • Climbing into the basket, shifting inside, and climbing back out gives steady practice with weight shifts and body control.
  • The short loop makes it easier for a child to try again without needing new materials or a new set of directions.
Real-world transfer
  • Crawling into play spaces, boxes, or tunnels without getting stuck.
  • Managing getting into and out of small everyday spaces with better body control.
  • Handling simple home routines that involve climbing, crouching, and moving through space.
